Design
With full design control the brief for Pandanus was “to deliver interior spaces and luxurious finishes” that emphasise the elegance of the architecture, connect with the coastal landscape and ensure that the needs and comforts of each guest is met”.
I was determined to “work with the spaces I had” and preserve the 60’s/70’s floorplan because it was “perfect” as it was (maybe some minor tweaks). It was also clear that the furniture style would need to align with this period and of course be comfortable. Then the creative process turned to interpreting and integrating the unique coastal landscape of Burleigh Heads into the interior design.
I have a passion for Fabric. I’ve always loved pattern, colour and the tactile nature of fabrics. For these reasons fabric is the perfect interpreter of our external landscape. With Pandanus it was then about the right combination of fabrics to allow the interior scheme to reflect the beauty of Burleigh Heads. I was also able to incorporate into the bon Sol scheme some of my own textiles from my first collection “Laniki” (inspired by Laniki beach in Hawaii).
